Raider Preview 2001

The Warren G. Harding Basketball program, under the direction of Coach Bubba and his
staff is now entering its fifth year and is coming off its best season. We are excited
about our schedule of games for the 2001-2002 season, with home games against local
rivals Howland and John F. Kennedy, Pennsylvania and national power George Junior
Republic, our home opener with newcomer Cleveland South, Sharon, Pa., and, of course,
we also have our rugged Steel Valley Conference schedule to play.

Our road games will be the most challenging we have had in many years at Harding. We
will travel to New Castle, Pa. to meet the powerful Red Hurricane, and to traditional and 8
time Pa. state champion Farrell. We also have road trips to Canton McKinley, Rayen and
to the Jackson Holiday Classic, where we will meet Jackson, and Canton Central Catholic.

We will miss our graduated for seniors, Craig Boyer, who is attending Westminister
University to play basketball and Jamaal Dawson who is playing football at Theil college in
Pennsylvania. Deon Butts--who is attending Defiance College and playing basketball, and
Devan Franklin who will be attending The Ohio State University, where he will attempt to
walk on for baseball. however, we have a strong nucleus of returning starters adn
lettermen, led by a very talented junior and sophmore class of which we started 3
sophmores,m and a junior in route to and 18-2 season record and 1st place in the SVC.
With leadership provided by seniors Ethan Banks and Shelby Chaney, along with letter
winner Ronnie Angel and Jonathan Moore and two year starter juniors in All-State
Prescott Burgess, All-League Danny Stella, and All- County Mike Phillips, we fully except
to compete once again for the S.V.C. championship and to continue deep into the post
season tournament trail. The long and storied tradition of Warren basketball has been
opened to a new chapter, and these young student-atheletes have captured the
imagination of the city and the school. it will be a long hard road, with many challenges,
but we pledge to give the very best we can, and strive for even more success in
2001-2002. We hope to see you at the games this year.
