The #1 seeded Lady Canes opened the game with an 18-0 run before McGuffey scored with 3:45 left in the first period. Then New Castle started the second quarter with a 17-0 run and led 50-7 with four minutes to play in the first half. The Canes' reserves played much of the rest of the game.

Former Butler and North Allegheny and current Center High School coach Mark Jula lead the Trojans into New Castle Fieldhouse in a AAA Section 2 matchup. After blowing a lead in the third quarter the Canes regained the lead 58-57 with less than 10 seconds to play and handed Jula yet another defeat on the New Castle hardwood.
